Let’s be honest, there’s nothing quite as frustrating as waking up tired, is there? You peel yourself out of bed, shuffle to the kettle, and hope a strong cuppa will somehow work magic. But what happens when even your favourite brew can’t pull you out of that fog? That was me for ages, running on empty, feeling like my batteries were permanently flat.
I used to think feeling drained was just part and parcel of modern life. Maybe you do too? After all, we’re all juggling a million things—work, family, endless to-do lists. But a few years ago, my body gave me a proper wake-up call. I’d been vegan for years, but after a spell of illness and months of relentless fatigue, I realised I needed more than just “cutting out animal products.” I needed to nourish myself, body and mind truly.
It wasn’t a dramatic overnight transformation. It started with a bit of stubbornness and a lot of trial and error. I swapped out the beige, processed vegan bits for real, vibrant whole foods—beans, lentils, leafy greens, nuts, and all the
colourful veg I could get my hands on. I started paying attention to how food made me feel, not just how it tasted or whether it ticked the “plant-based” box.
And you know what? The difference was like night and day. No more mid-afternoon crashes or desperate sugar hunts. Whole, plant-based foods gave me this gentle, reliable energy that lasted all day. I felt lighter, less sluggish, and—dare I say it almost sprightly! My mind felt clearer, my mood lifted, and my tummy was a lot
happier too.
I won’t pretend it was all smooth sailing. There were days I fancied a takeaway or wanted to give up and crawl back under the duvet. But every time I stuck with it, I noticed another little improvement—more energy here, a clearer head there. It all added up.
If you’re feeling wiped out or stuck in a rut, I honestly recommend giving a plant-based reset a try. Give yourself a month. Focus on real, nourishing foods, and be gentle with yourself. You might just be surprised by how much better you feel, body, mind, and soul.
